Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune is the turning of cycles. It reminds you that circumstances change, and that how you respond is the part that is yours.

Upright

  • cycles
  • change
  • turning point
  • luck
  • perspective

The Wheel of Fortune turns, and what is at the top comes down while what is at the bottom rises. This card speaks of change that comes from outside your control: a stroke of luck, a shift in circumstances, a turning point you did not plan. It reminds you that nothing stays still. Good periods pass, difficult periods pass, and the whole picture is larger than the part you are standing in.

The helpful response is to move with the turn instead of against it. Notice what is changing, and ask what it makes possible. If luck is with you, use it wisely and with gratitude. If it is not, remember the wheel keeps moving. Your steadiness at the hub, where the motion is smallest, matters more than where you happen to be on the rim.

Reversed

  • setback
  • resistance to change
  • bad timing
  • feeling stuck
  • repeating patterns

Reversed, the Wheel can show a stretch where things seem to go against you: a delay, a setback, the sense of repeating the same lesson. Resistance to change often sits here too. You may be holding on to something that is already shifting, or blaming bad luck for a pattern that you could examine. The cycle is still turning, only more slowly or less comfortably than you would like.

Look at what repeats and ask what it is teaching. Some of what feels like fate is habit, and habits can be changed. Other things are truly outside your control, and the kindest response is patience. Do what is yours to do, release what is not, and stay ready for the moment the wheel moves on.

Love, work and money

  • Love, upright

In love, the Wheel suggests a turning point: a meeting, a change in a relationship, or a new stage together. Let events unfold and be open to a surprise. Timing is on the move, so stay flexible and receptive to what arrives.

  • Love, reversed

In love, reversed, you may feel stuck in a pattern or watch for the same issue returning. Ask what it is showing you. Accept that some changes need time, and focus on what you can do, which is honest communication and patience.

  • Work, upright

At work, the card points to a change of circumstances, often for the better: an opportunity, a promotion, a new direction. Be ready to adapt. Take advantage of the moment, and prepare for the next phase while the current one lasts.

  • Work, reversed

At work, reversed, delays and unexpected changes may test your plans. Do not take it personally. Keep your skills sharp and your options open. If a pattern keeps recurring, look for what you can learn and adjust.

  • Money, upright

With money, the card shows a change of fortune and a reminder that conditions shift. Make good use of an upturn by saving some of it. In a leaner time, remember that it is a phase and plan with patience.

  • Money, reversed

With money, reversed, a setback or a delay may be testing you. Keep your reserves, avoid risky bets made to recover quickly, and review what has gone wrong. This is a time for careful steps instead of dramatic ones.

Yes or no

  • Upright: Yes

The tide is turning in your favour, so the answer leans towards yes.

  • Reversed: Not yet clear

The timing is not right yet, so be patient and see what shifts.

In the traditional image

A great wheel hangs in the sky, covered in alchemical symbols and ringed by the letters T, A, R, O. Around it sit four winged figures, the lion, the bull, the eagle and the angel, each holding a book. A serpent descends on one side, a jackal rises on the other, and a sphinx sits calmly at the top.
