King of Wands
The King of Wands is the mature leader of fire: a visionary who turns drive into direction. He inspires through example, and he knows that real authority means taking responsibility.
Upright
- vision
- leadership
- inspiration
- boldness
- responsibility
A king sits on a throne carved with lions and salamanders, wearing a crown and a flowing cloak. He holds a living staff and looks to the side as though picturing the next step. Where the Knight rushes and the Queen radiates, the King directs. He has a clear sense of what he wants to build and the energy to see it done. He is the founder, the coach or the elder who can see what a situation could become.
This card invites you to lead your own life with confidence. Set a vision, share it plainly, and take responsibility for how it affects other people. A good leader of fire is generous, not controlling, and lets others contribute. Use your experience to choose a bold goal, and hold yourself to the same standard you hope to see in others.
Reversed
- domineering
- impulsive
- overbearing
- unrealistic
- ego
Reversed, the vision turns into domination or fantasy. The King may become impatient with others, overbearing, or so sure of his plans that he ignores advice. He can also promise more than he can deliver, and then react badly when the results fall short.
Check whether your drive is serving the whole team or only your pride. Listen to someone who disagrees, and test your plans against real limits of time and energy. Leadership works best when people feel free to speak up. Admitting a mistake is one of the strongest things a leader can do. The King regains his best form when he asks for advice and acts on at least some of it.
Love, work and money
- Love, upright
A confident, generous and loyal partner, or you in that role. Passion goes together with commitment and a willingness to take responsibility. Share your plans, and make room for the other person's voice.
- Love, reversed
Control, pride or a need to be right. A partner may feel talked over, or you may feel that way. Listen first, apologise when needed, and let love be shared rather than led by one person.
- Work, upright
Strong leadership, vision and the ability to inspire. Take charge of a project and set clear goals. Support your team and keep your promises. Set clear goals, define roles, and give people the freedom to find their own ways of reaching them.
- Work, reversed
An overbearing or unrealistic approach. Slow down, ask for input and check your plan against the facts. Delegate with trust rather than controlling every step. Share the vision, but also share the numbers and the risks, so that others can help you steer.
- Money, upright
Bold but responsible management of resources. You can plan for the long term with confidence. Keep your goals clear and your accounts honest. Choose long-term goals that you can explain simply, and match them with a steady monthly plan.
- Money, reversed
Overreaching or ego-driven choices about money. Review your plans with a trusted adviser, and avoid taking on more than you can sustain. Check whether the plan depends on a best-case outcome, and build a version that does not.
Yes or no
- Upright: Yes
Clear vision and steady leadership support going ahead.
- Reversed: Not yet clear
